Marching Band Mini-Camp Reminders & Band Booster VP Elections

We are excited to officially kick off our season this week! A few reminders and clarifications for the next couple days:

- Please plan on your student arriving 15 minutes prior to the start of their rehearsal time. Woodwind and brass players should park or be dropped off near the band tower in the west area of the student parking lot. Percussion and color guard members should report outside the pool lobby entrance. Please remind your students to maintain 6 ft. distancing while they wait in line to have their temperature checked. We would like the students to wear masks for this process as they will need to be closer than 6' to get their temperature taken. For the remainder of our time outdoors, masks are strongly recommended but not required.

- Because of JPS meal service pickup, when woodwind members are dismissed at noon on Monday, you will want to leave the parking lot via Basswood (the Lamplight side of the lot) rather than exiting on Bauer. Brass players heading in to rehearsal on Monday may also want to enter from the Lamplight side.

- Percussionists should bring their personal stick bags with sticks and mallets to minimize the need to share any implements.

- Hydration - even if the weather is not particularly hot - is EXTREMELY important. Please make sure your student is well hydrated at all times. Make sure they bring a full water jug to rehearsal. For morning rehearsals, even students who do not typically eat breakfast MUST eat something healthy before coming to school. Avoid sugary foods or too much dairy. Sunscreen will also be a MUST!

It's time to elect a new Band Booster Vice President! Our VP for the coming year will become President the following year. We have two candidates seeking this office, Minda Floyd-Schoutens (mom of Alex and Abby Floyd) and Alicia Hook (mom of Aubri Seinen). Since we can't meet as a Band Booster group in person yet, we will hold this election online. Read their candidate statements, then click on the link to a Google form which will serve as your ballot. Current band parents only please! One vote per family. Voting will be open until 11:59 pm on Tuesday, June 16.

Minda Floyd-Schoutens

Hi! My name is Minda, and I am the proud Mom of a freshman color guard member, as well as the young man running the sound board during the performances. Additionally, I am a Girl Scout leader of 9 years in Jenison, and I can also be found around the Orchestra program, so you may have met me in one of those organizations as well! My goal is to be able to make the band experience for these kids as positive as possible, no matter what the world is throwing our way.

Alicia Hook

Hello, I'm Alicia! I currently have a daughter who is a Junior in the marching band and a daughter in beginning band, with two more kids joining beginning band in the following two consecutive years!  Band is strong in our home!! Marching band has always been a passion of mine since I was little.  I was fortunate enough to be a part of an excellent marching program in my high school years.  Winning State Finals was, and still is, my favorite high school memory.  I am currently an Administrative Assistant for Genesis and G2 Percussion, as well as the Parent Liaison, so to say I am passionate about music is an understatement!! Being a part of something that will have a life-long effect on our members is something that I take to heart.  I feel that the passion, love and pride that I have for our marching band program is something that will help me in the role of Vice President of Band Boosters.  Thank you!
